Chapter Five

“Company?” Ty grunted. “Got all the company I need.” He shoved the door closed.

Audrey caught it with a foot, leaned against the doorframe, and pouted with garishly overpainted lips. “I was thinking more like adult company.”

Right, adult. Was there a mature, adult way to kick her ass clear across the ranch? That was kind of tricky, given that Audrey was a woman and all.

“What do you want, Audrey?”

Okay, a stupid question, because it was pretty damn clear what Audrey wanted.

“Do I have to spell it out, cowboy?” she teased.

He glanced around. The last thing he needed was someone spotting Audrey and getting the wrong idea. Although if any fool questioned his devotion to Lana, he’d kick that sorry ass not just across the ranch, but all the way over the state line and into Nevada.

He shook his head. “Audrey, the ranch is full of guys for you to…to…” He struggled there, because saying to fuck seemed a little crude, even for Audrey. “…to mess around with. Why don’t you go find someone else?”

“I don’t want anyone else,” she purred, batting two-inch eyelashes that hurt to look at. “I want you.”

I don’t want you! He nearly yelled it. Never did, never would.

He settled for shooting a mental call for his brother out into the night air. Cody! Get your ass over here!

He waited a split second, but there was no response. Damn his unreliable little brother! Cody and the other single males of the ranch could be impossible to track down at times. If only fate would bring them their own mates and settle them down a little.

He sighed. Someday, maybe even Cody would find a mate.

“Look, Audrey, I don’t want to hurt you—” he started, because Lana had been lecturing him about diplomacy and tact and other foreign concepts, so he figured he ought to at least try.

Audrey’s eyes sparkled. “You can do whatever you want with me, Ty, baby. Like spank me.”

He gritted his teeth.

“Tie me up.”

Now he really felt sick.

“Screw me hot and hard and—”

“Audrey!” He thundered her name so loud, the baby started to wail. And didn’t that just win him a parenting prize? He patted Tana’s back and nuzzled her cheek as he counted to five.

“Audrey,” he growled, and this time, he wasn’t going to hold back, even if the little tramp was trembling at his outburst. Let her tremble. Let her learn her place once and for all. “You will never, ever—”

A voice shot out of the dark, cutting him off.

“Hey, Audrey!” the man called. “Cody is looking for you.”

Zack to the rescue. Ty nearly gave him a high five.

I owe you, man, he nodded to his friend.

Audrey batted her eyes at Zack. The woman never stopped trying, did she?

“Good to see you, Zack,” she purred, running hungry eyes over his frame. “You lonely, too?”

Right, lonely. Like a mated wolf ever felt lonely.

It struck him that maybe that’s what Audrey was all about. Maybe she wasn’t so much after raw sex as company. Maybe
